Jessica has been a valued member of the Pacific Environments team for over two years. Initially joining us as an architectural student, she has progressed to become a skilled architectural graduate. Jessica has recently taken up a role on our Health and Safety team and picked up one of our recent in-house Above and Beyond awards, for her engagement in a high school careers programme, where she shared insights about being an architectural graduate.
Jessica was drawn to architecture because it was so inclusive, covering a range of areas she is interested in such as sustainability and history. Although initially hesitant due to the physics aspect of the discipline (but don’t worry students and aspiring architects, a general understanding will see you right), but while travelling and marveling at the buildings while overseas, sparked the idea of pursuing architecture as a career. Architecture is visionary and creative, blends sustainability and design to work on meaningful projects.
While working on her thesis, Jessica joined the Pacific Environments team, finding a good balance between the visionary concept work of university, with the practical realities of an architecture studio. Her involvement in Kāinga Ora projects allowed her to delve into the intricacies of site restrictions and details, enriching her understanding of real-world architecture.
Currently Jessica is involved within our interior design team, gaining valuable insights into the interconnectedness of architectural sectors. By working from the inside out, she has developed a unique perspective on spatial connections that many architecture graduates might not have experienced.
Her most significant lesson has been one of responsibility. Everything you do has an impact on the result, so paying attention to details and reviewing your work has been crucial to her practice. She highlights the value in seeking guidance when unsure, whether from tutors, colleagues, project leads, or directors. This openness to learning has been vital for her professional growth.
Jessica’s journey with Pacific Environments is a testament to the power of passion, responsibility, and continuous learning in the field of architecture.
