The team joined the celebrations at the opening of Te Paataka Koorero o Takaanini Community Hub last weekend.
The packed out event reflects the community anticipation around this project. Architectural Designer Rachel Xu joined Interiors Team Lead Sara Romano at the opening event, Rachel’s son Enzo tested out the new space, with a big thumbs up for the surprise tiny wall nooks in the kids’ area. Rachel explained “the nooks provide a welcome vibe for the little person… it’s a great environment to get kids interested and wanting to stay longer. Enzo felt really at home in the quiet spaces. He called them little houses. I think they reminded him of a window seat at home where he likes to read.”
We are incredibly proud to have partnered with Auckland City, and Focus Interiors to realise this playful and vibrant community space in the heart of Takanini Village. At the opening, Mayor Phil Goff acknowledged the collaborative process of the project “It’s great that much of what people will experience in the new hub, as well as the services offered and how it will be run, is the direct result of input and engagement with the community.” Community Hub manager Dany Millar added “This will be more than just a library and we hope people will quickly take ownership of this space and that it becomes the heart and soul of this new and growing community.”
