The Maritime Museum is home to some of New Zealand’s most precious historical artifacts and plays a significant role in providing education to school students and curious visitors alike.
The aim in enhancing the education room was not just to create a sensory space but also to expand learning opportunities and introduce versatility within the existing premises, fostering an environment that sparks curiosity, encourages imagination, and establishes a meaningful connection with maritime history.
A key focus of the redesign was to improve acoustic performance within the education room. Carefully selected materials were used to dampen sound, allowing for clear and focused communication.
The interior design called for a nautical theme, immersing visitors in an environment reminiscent of seawater movement, the sturdy construction of wooden ships, and the vast landscapes of the maritime world.
As newcomers step into the transformed space, they are greeted by a visually stunning environment, prompting them to explore, appreciate, and connect with the intriguing stories of the South Pacific.
